A year of partnership between Hachette Livre and Libraries Without Borders

Hachette Livre is celebrating a year of collaboration with Libraries Without Borders (LWB), a non-profit that works to expand access to culture, education and information among vulnerable populations.

On September 28, 2023, Hachette Livre officialized the partnership via a three-year agreement structured around three main focus areas:

  • Long-term financial backing to support the non-profit’s projects
  • Hachette Livre employees’ participation in impactful initiatives
  • Donations in kind to support projects on the ground

During this first year, Hachette Livre played a part in many initiatives, including solidarity days, skill mentoring, and collective intelligence workshops.

A range of sustainable notebooks for a good cause

To mark the second year of the partnership, Hachette Livre and LWB are launching a range of solidarity notebooks available in bookshops and online. All profits from the notebooks, which are distributed and marketed by Hachette Livre, will be donated to LWB to fund innovative, inclusive libraries in challenging settings such as refugee camps, war zones, and deprived neighborhoods, both in France and further afield.

The notebooks are produced sustainably and printed on demand by Lightning Source, a Hachette Livre partner in France. This production method is based on actual needs, limiting surpluses and shrinking the resulting environmental footprint.

A renewed commitment to access to knowledge

The upcoming year of partnership will give Hachette Livre and LWB the opportunity to boost their efforts to promote access to reading and knowledge through new projects announced throughout the year.
